forever 80s podcast

Welcome to the Forever `80s Podcast!

This is a podcast that explores the question: “Why are the 1980s so enduring?”

It’s a show for people who celebrate 1980s culture in in its various forms: from fashion to music to film and more.

And it’s a show for people who are curious about why nostalgia has become something of a lifestyle for so many of us.

When I started this podcast, I had been sitting on these questions for years. In the late ‘90s, as grunge was fizzling out and Britney Spears and boy bands were taking its place, I started to dive deeper into 1980s pop culture.

At the time, this felt like a cultural faux pas: You have to understand that once grunge exploded, anything that remotely resembled the ‘80s felt horribly dated.

But somewhere along the way, I got called back to the 1980s through the sounds of the Smiths, Sisters of Mercy, Psychedelic Furs, and more.

And as time went on, that became my go-to comfort decade.

Once we got into the early 2000s, I started to notice I wasn’t the only one who felt the same way.

Now, twenty years beyond that and counting, I’m still a huge fan of 1980s fashion and culture. And I’m noticing that there’s a whole new generation of young adults who are falling in love with the decade, too.

So I started the Forever ‘80s podcast as a way to explore this fascination – and, albeit, mild obsession – so many of us have with the ‘80s.
